countertop Templating Process

Step 1: Contact
Some dealers will prefer to be your contact regarding your tops, they will contact you and set up a template time and date. Some dealers will turn the job over to us and we will be communicating with you throughout the job. Zach will be contacting you with the time and date for the template.

Step 2: Confirming the Template Date
CMC will confirm the template date and approximate time with you through e-mail and or phone depending on return confirmation. This will usually occur the day before your template.

Step 3: Clear the Countertops
Please have all items completely cleared from the countertops (this means everything!) but you do NOT need to remove the tops.

Step 4: Creating the Templates
CMC creates templates with a digital templating system that utilizes targets and a digital camera. We create very precise drawings and templates from this digital system that we use to cut out your countertops. All of the tops CMC fabricates are cut out or machined on state of the art CNC machinery. Occasionally, we will come back to the job site to check our templates before fabricating the job. This usually occurs on unique designs that require your approval.

Step 5: Checking Cabinet Levelness
Our templator will check the stability and levelness of the cabinets if possible. The countertop must lie flat to eliminate stress on the corners, cutouts and seams. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the dealer/homeowner to ensure that the cabinets are level. All cabinets must be permanently secured to the walls and/or floor. It is not CMC’s responsibility to level or structurally alter cabinets. If this is not complete before we arrive there may be charges associated with any delays, added work or rescheduling a new install date. Remove all high spots that would cause tops to teeter or create gaps between tops and cabinets. CMC will install your tops level. This can create gaps between your tops and your cabinets. This is usually ¼” or less. It is not CMC’s responsibility to provide trim to hide this gap.

Step 6: Collecting Final Job Information
You should have all of the pertinent job information for our templator at the time of template. It is mandatory that you (or authorized decision maker) be present to answer any questions and to confirm all of the job information. If we do not have all of the information your job will not go into production. Pertinent information: Sink info, cook top info, backsplash info, color, edge style, overhangs, radius corners etc. We suggest this information be delivered to CMC before your template. This gives our templator a better chance of recognizing any issues that may cause delays.

Step 7: Extra Support
Corbels and or steel supports may be required to support overhangs that extend beyond the cabinet. CMC does not supply these and it is very important that they are installed prior to templating.
- Granite can extend 6” to 10” unsupported without cutouts provided it is on a full depth cabinet of 24 inches min. in depth.
- Solid surface and Quartz can extend 12” unsupported without cutouts provided it is on a full depth cabinet of 24 inches min. in depth.
