Care & Maintenance: Granite
Spills can be very different in nature from one another. Many of them will turn out to be detrimental to stone if left unattended. Orange juice, lemonade, wine, liquors, tomato sauce, yogurt, salad dressing, perfume, after shave, wrong cleaning products and anything with an acidic content is potentially harmful depending on your particular stone. Though a long list, most likely will not damage your granite in the short run but will ETCH polished marble, travertine, limestone and onyx. Use coasters under all glasses, particularly those containing alcohol or citrus juices. Many common foods and drinks contain acids that will etch or dull the stone surface. Do not use generic cleaners on your countertops unless they specifically declare that they are safe on natural stone.
